• Overview of Agency/Organization
Start the Adventure in Reading (STAIR) works to improve the reading skills and self-esteem of lower elementary school students across the Greater New Orleans area. STAIR offers free, one-on-one tutoring to 2nd and 3rd graders virtually and in-person at select school sites.


• Purpose/role within organization
STAIR tutors play a critical role in their students’ reading journey. STAIR tutors develop a one-on-one relationship with students, which is what makes this volunteer experience so rewarding. The best STAIR tutors are enthusiastic, organized, and engaging. We want STAIR students to be excited about reading!

• Job Duties and responsibilities
  • One-on-one tutoring with a teacher-created, STAIR curriculum
  • Lesson prep and review prior to each tutoring session
  • Submission of a brief Tutor Report following each tutoring session

• Preferred Skills/qualifications
